About Protondex

A modern compatibility database for Steam games on Linux. Current answers, editable reports, better filters, and troubleshooting that keeps up with Proton.

What is this?

Steam games don’t always run natively on Linux. Valve’s Proton compatibility layer makes most Windows games playable, but results vary by game, hardware, and driver. Protondex is a community index where Linux gamers share compatibility reports — so you can find out what actually works before you buy or install.

Independence

Protondex is an independent community compatibility index and is not affiliated with Valve, Steam, Proton, CodeWeavers, or ProtonDB.

Historical data & the ODbL

Some historical compatibility records originate from ProtonDB's data export under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0; Protondex publishes a periodic public dump of its compatibility database under the same license. Imported records carry only a compatibility tier, the Linux path (Proton or native), and the original report date — no notes, environment details, or usernames. Each imported report is labelled and links back to ProtonDB and the Open Database License.

In keeping with the ODbL’s share-alike terms, Protondex publishes a periodic public dump of its compatibility database (the same minimal fields) under the ODbL.
